The Golf Club at Rancho California (formally known as SCGA Golf Club), is known as one of the finest competitive venues in golf, has carried a storied history since its inception in 1970. Designed by legendary Architect Robert Trent Jones Sr., who is known for several championship designs in California such as Mission Viejo CC, Valencia CC and Spyglass Hill in Pebble Beach, the golf course was opened for play 1971 as Murrieta Golf Club. The focal point of a proposed real estate development as well as the famed Murrieta Hot Springs Resort, Legal entanglements forced the closure of the golf course in the late 1970´s. The property lay dormant until its resurrection in 1986, by local developer Bill Johnson, and was reopened as the Rancho California Golf Club. The facility immediately found itself added to several Best Public Course” lists by various golf publications, and became a destination for golf purists throughout California.
